ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁϱ¬ÁϹÙÍø150: Public art commission

As part of the programme of activities to mark our 150th anniversary, we have commissioned an East Lothian artist to design and create a unique public art piece which will take centre stage in the grounds of the University.

This project has been made possible by donations from members of the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁϱ¬ÁϹÙÍø community.

Martha Ellis stands alongside an assortment of cut-out sheet metal sculptures

Artist Martha Ellis, a resident of Musselburgh, was selected out of a pool of applicants to create the piece which can be enjoyed by students, staff, visitors and the local community.

The aim is to capture the people and activities which make up ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁϱ¬ÁϹÙÍø, both from the past and present, creating a piece that will inspire all who visit, study and work at the campus.

Martha is a visual artist with a passion for showcasing a ‘sense of place’ in her signature ‘cut-out’ drawing style using sheet metal. This is one of her first public commissions.

Martha will be engaging our students, staff and wider community as she works on this commission.

Keep an eye out on this page and ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁϱ¬ÁϹÙÍø's social media channels for more information as it becomes available.
